Carlos Pintado

Musician Bio: 

Carlos Pintado (1974) is a Cuban–American writer, playwright and award-winning poet. His book Habitación a oscuras received the prestigious Sant Jordi's International Prize fand his book El azar y los tesoros was one of the finalists for Spain's Adonais Prize. In 2014, Carlos Pintado was awarded with the Paz Prize for his new book “Nueve Monedas/Nine coins” given by The National Poetry Series published in a bilingual edition by Akashic Books. Carlos Pintado’s published books include: La Seducción del Minotauro, Los bosques de Mortefontaine, Habitación a oscuras, Los Nombres de la noche, El Unicornio y otros poemas and Cuaderno del falso amor impure, Taubenschlag and “La sed del último que mira. He also contributed to the book: The exile Experience: a journey to freedom, coordinated by Emilio Estefan. Some of his works have been translated into English, Italian, German, French, Turkish, and Portuguese and have appeared in The New York Times, American Poetry Review, World Literature Today among others. In 2010, the South Beach Chamber Ensemble released the "Quintet on Carlos Pintado Poems" a piano and string quintet based on his poems. Another collection of his poetry titled Tropical Rhymes (Rimas tropicales) had its World Premiere in San Francisco in 2011 by the San Francisco Girls Chorus. Carlos Pintado's "Idolos del sueño" (Dream eidolons) was turned into a piece for a soprano, clarinet, violin, cello and piano and it was premiered in 2011 by music ensemble CONTINUUM at Kaufman Music Center in New York City. His latest work Del falso amor impuro was turned into a piece for a soprano, violin, and saxophone for a Chicago-based contemporary music ensemble.
